About Downtown Statesville
Downtown Statesville Development Corporation is a non-profit, 501(c) 3 organization charged with administering the Main Street Program and managing the revitalization of Downtown Statesville, located in the beautiful foothills of North Carolina at the intersections of I-77 and I-40.
Downtown Statesville Development Corporation’s mission is to maintain and develop Downtown Statesville as the cultural, economic, social and historic center of the community. Our goal is to create an environment which fosters the redevelopment of Downtown Statesville’s central business district and serve as a catalyst for private development and public partnerships.
Downtown Statesville Development Corporation began its work in 1982 as the Main Street Program. As on of five North Carolina cities chosen to participate in the second round of the Main Street Program, Statesville worked to encourage downtown economic development within the context of historic preservation. The community, local government, civic and social leaders felt the Central Business District was at a critical point in its redevelopment. Statesville completed its three year commitment to the Main Street Program in July 1985. Realizing that a firm foundation had been set for downtown revitalization, Statesville formed a non-profit corporation – DSDC to administer the continuing program for Downtown Statesville. DSDC was supported by member contributions until 1987, when the municipal tax district was formed.
DSDC works create a well-balanced program for growth of our downtown district by:
[1] Building consensus and cooperation among many groups and individuals with an interest in Downtown, and to identify sources of funding for revitalization activities;
[2] Working to enhance the physical appearance of historic buildings, encourage compatible new construction, public improvements, and to develop sensitive design management systems;
[3] Market the traditional district’s assets to customers, potential investors, new businesses, local citizens and visitors through events and advertising; and
[4] Strengthen the district’s economic base while exploring new opportunities and meeting new challenges.
STAFF AND OFFICE
The DSDC staff consists of 2 full-time personnel, Marin Tomlin the Executive Director and Deb Konczal, Administrative Assistant, both are funded through the general funds of Downtown Statesville Development Corporation. Our office is located at the Statesville Depot on Shelton Ave. Operating Hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Contact us by:
