Pizza Factory Re-Opens in Downtown Statesville


On Tuesday, March 2 the Pizza Factory in Downtown Statesville celebrated its Grand Re-Opening after a two year hiatus. Located at 123 Landmark Alley (Behind Black Angus), the restaurant will be open for lunch Tuesday - Friday from 11-2  and for dinner Tuesday - Saturday 5-10. Statesville City Fair Planned for March 13


The City of Statesville is inviting you to come get all your questions answered and find out a whole lot more at a City Fair on Saturday, March 13, from 9 a.m. until noon in the Statesville Civic Center. Every department will have a booth and a representative there to talk to you about different programs, answer your questions and listen to your ideas. There will be handouts and refreshments and give aways and it’s all free.

Twilight Cemetery Tours Set for April 10-11 in Historic Fourth Creek Burying Ground


There’s no need to fear the voices you might hear coming from the Fourth Creek Burying Ground in downtown Statesville on April 10-11. That’s the weekend of the Twilight Cemetery Tours and the voices are characters from the past sharing bits and pieces of their own stories and the cemetery’s history. This is the second year visitors to the cemetery will be able to walk back in time as history comes alive through the tales of costumed actors and actresses portraying people who are buried there. A guide will lead groups through the cemetery to meet these characters and look at the fascinating tombstones. Tickets are $10 each and reservations are required. Downtown Statesville Spring Art Crawl Set for Friday, April 23


The Downtown Statesville Spring Art Crawl has been moved from its usual March timeframe to April in hopes of more pleasant weather conditions so people are better able to enjoy the Art Crawl experience. We are currently accepting applications from artists who wish to participate in April 23rd event.Click here to download the Artist Application. Statesville Grape and Gourmet Tasting Planned for February 26


On Friday, February 26, 2010 from 7:00-10:00 pm come be a part of one of the area’s most enjoyable and popular events, The Statesville Grape and Gourmet Tasting. This event allows attendees an opportunity to purchase and taste over 100 great varieties of wine from North Carolina vineyards and around the country, sample food from Statesville’s best restaurants, socialize with friends and participate in the silent auction benefiting Hospice & Palliative Care of Iredell County. Statesville’s Own Recognized at NC Main Street Conference in New Bern, NC


Downtown Statesville Development Corporation is proud to announce that two downtown property owners will be recognized for their excellence at the 2010 North Carolina Main Street Conference held in New Bern January 27-29. Marion and Donna Karr will receive an Award of Merit in the category of Best Historic Rehabilitation Project for their revitalization of 105 East Broad Street and Gloria Hager, owner of gg’s Art Frames Gifts (formerly Frame Gallery & Gifts) will receive a Special Recognition in the category of Best Historic Facade Rehabilitation Project for her renovation of the exterior facade of 110 West Broad Street.

2009 Christmas Ornament “Nu-Way Shoe Shop” Now Available


The Downtown Statesville Development Corporation is announcing that the 2009 Christmas ornament featuring Nu-Way Shoe Shop has arrived. Nu-Way Shoe Shop is one of Statesville’s oldest businesses - opening in 1920 and moving in 1930 to its present location at 114 East Broad Street as depicted on the ornament. Three generations of the Cornacchione family have operated this business, beginning with Italian immigrant Gaetano Crescenzo Cornacchione, then his son Guy Salvadore Cornacchione, Sr. and now grandson Sal Cornacchione.

The ornaments are available at the following locations: gg’s (formerly Frame Gallery) - 110 W. Broad Street, Express Yourself Stationery & Gifts - 111 E. New Year's Eve Gala Planned at Civic Center


The City of Statesville has a lot to celebrate on New Year’s Eve and is inviting the whole community to the party. The annual New Year’s Eve Gala, sponsored by the City of Statesville’s Entertainment Series, will not only celebrate the arrival of 2010, but also highlight the City’s selection as an All America City and the tenth anniversary of the Statesville Civic Center.

To commemorate this special night, the $25 admission price will include great music by popular beach music band, General Johnson and the Chairman of the Board, and a full-course dinner with all the trimmings. Downtown Statesville Holiday Open House - Friday, December 11


The spirit of the season will come alive as downtown shops and restaurants celebrate with the Annual Holiday Open House on Friday, December 11 from 4-9 pm in Downtown Statesville. Bring the whole family to charming Downtown Statesville and experience the atmosphere of an Old Fashioned Christmas with beautiful holiday decorations, carolers, horse-drawn carriage rides, ice skating rink, merchant open houses and refreshments. And don’t forget…downtown’s locally owned shops and restaurants are great places to find unique holiday gifts.

Open House activities are FREE, open to the public and include:

• “Ice” Skating on Meeting Street (skates provided!).
• Carriage Rides in front of R. Gregory Jewelers (accepting donations for Gordon Hospice House). Additional Carriage Rides from 5:30-8:30 pm in front of the Old County Courthouse on South Center Street (Free tickets will be handed out beginning at 5 pm).
• Visit and tour the Old County Courthouse on South Center Street to see the decorations, enjoy light refreshments and listen to local musicians performing on Revolutionary Period instruments from 6-8 pm.
• Live Nativity Program by First ARP Church on East Broad Street at 5:30 pm, 6:30 pm and 7:30 pm with music between programs and cider on hand to enjoy.
• Kid’s Inflatable Rides in the parking lot beside Nu-Way Shoe Shop on East Broad Street (provided by Olde Towne Sweets celebrating their 10th Anniversary).
• Statesville High School’s Blue & Gray Chorus from 4-5 pm on West Broad Street by Sub Express.
• Santa Claus at the Square from 5:30-6:30 pm and 7-8 pm.
• Free Holiday Ornament Workshop. Stop in from 5-7 pm and let your children create a holiday ornament at the Partnership for Young Children. Located at 132 East Broad Street.

Pastel Prisms & Reflections of Beauty Works on Display at Iredell Musuems from Nov 13 -Dec 18


As part of its mission to preserve, promote and provide learning experiences in culture, heritage, and the arts, Iredell Museums will present Pastel Prisms & Reflections of Beauty – works from the Pastel Society of North Carolina. The exhibit will be held at the Court Street Gallery, 134 Court Street, in downtown Statesville from November 13 through December 18, 2009. The opening reception for the artists will be held on Friday, November 13, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. The Gallery is open to the public Tuesday through Friday from 10:00am to 5:00pm, or by appointment. Suggested admission is $3.00.

City of Statesville's Annual Tree Lighting at the Statesville Civic Center


Santa comes to town, free train rides, hot beverages and cookies, pictures with Santa and indoor playland on Tuesday, December 1 from 6:30-8:30 pm at the Statesville Civic Center. Open to the public and there is no charge. A great way to get in the holiday spirit!

Haunted Statesville Tours - It’s Scarier Than Ever!


Haunted Statesville! Everyone loves a great ghost story. Come if you dare! This walking ghost tour is full of old stories and legends from Statesville’s past. Step beyond the beauty of Statesville’s historic downtown and discover its true haunted history--where tales of spirits, scary creatures, mysterious deaths and creepy alleys become real. Tours run October 23-24 and October 30-31 every half hour between 6 - 8 pm. Tickets are $8 per person or 4 for $30. Reservations are required. Pumpkin Fest is Set for November 7th in Downtown Statesville


The 7th Annual Crossroads Pumpkin Fest is set for Saturday, November 7, 2009 from 10 am - 5 pm in Downtown Statesville. This one-day festival will feature food, entertainment, arts, crafts, a kids zone and lots of pumpkin games (smashing, painting and bowling) throughout the day. A new addition to this year's festival will be a Cornhole Tournament. This fantastic fall festival has become a community favorite, with attendance approaching 15,000, that is enjoyed by many throughout our region.
