Renovated City Hall Opens to Public Sunday, February 5


Statesville citizens will get a chance to walk throughout the newly renovated City Hall during a public open house on Sunday, Feb. 5, 2-5 p.m. For more than a year, the 120-year old building has undergone major renovations to restore its historic character and make space for City offices. On Sunday, guests will enter on the first floor from either entrance. Handicapped access is available from the parking lot entrance. On the first floor, visitors will be amazed at the openness of the lobby area. They can view historic photographs and City Hall-related memorabilia provided by local historian Steve Hill. They can stand in the office of Statesville’s first postmaster, A.D. Cowles, and see where the Statesville Planning Department will soon be relocated. Victorian-era refreshments will also be served. There is no fee to attend the Open House. Visitors are encouraged to sign up for a tour when they arrive at the open house. For more information, call 704-878-3586.

Tickets Now On Sale for the Statesville Grape & Gourmet Tasting


On Friday, February 24, 2012 from 7:00-10:00 pm come be a part of one of the area’s most enjoyable and popular events, the Statesville Grape and Gourmet Tasting. This exclusive wine tasting event gives attendees an opportunity to taste a variety of 75 different wines from North Carolina vineyards and around the country, “sample” food from some of Statesville’s best restaurants and caterers, socialize with friends and participate in the silent auction benefiting Hospice & Palliative Care of Iredell County. This “cannot miss event” will be held at the Statesville Civic Center located at 300 South Center Street, in historic Downtown Statesville. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 day of event. Gildan Relocating U.S. Sales and Marketing Offices to Downtown Statesville


Montreal-based activewear manufacturer Gildan announced today it will be consolidating its U.S. Sales and Marketing offices from Newton and Greensboro, North Carolina to downtown Statesville, North Carolina. The move will bring approximately 30 professional jobs to the 9,500 square foot building at the corner of Tradd and Broad Streets, formerly occupied by Wachovia Bank and, most recently, Dana Corporation. The real estate deal was brokered by Harry Tsumas of Tsumas Real Estate & Development and Edwin Hunter of Edwin Hunter & Associates.

New Year's Eve Celebration at Statesville Civic Center


Tickets are on sale for the New Year's Eve Celebration at the Statesville Civic Center, presented by the City of Statesville Entertainment Series. The Embers are this year's band, playing a variety of beach and dance music. Doors open at 8 p.m. and the show begins at 9 p.m. Tickets are $30 each which includes show, party favors and heavy hors d'oeuvres. There will be a cash bar serving beer, wine, soft drinks and water. 2011 Downtown Christmas Ornaments are Available


The Downtown Statesville Development Corporation is announcing that the 2011 Christmas ornament depicting the Statesville Jewelry & Loan Building has arrived and are on sale. This building, located at 110 S. Center Street, was built in 1885 and the first tenant was The Wallace Brothers Wholesale Dry Goods and Notions Store. As time went by it also housed Roses 5&10 Cent Store, The Gold Shop and several others until Statesville Jewelry and Loan Co. moved in during the 1980’s. The ornament depicts Michael Joe Moore’s original watercolor painting of the building.  The ornaments are available at the following locations: Westmoreland Antiques and Collectibles - 117 S. Center Street, GG’s (formerly Frame Gallery & Gifts) - 110 W. Broad Street, Water Street Marketplace - 111 E. Water Street, Sub Express - 126 W. Broad Street and Sabine’s News Café – 107 E. Broad Street. There are a limited number of 2010, 2009, 2008, 2007, 2006, 2005, 2004, 2003, 2002, 2001, 2000, 1999, and 1996 ornaments available. All ornaments are $7. 2011 Statesville Christmas Parade


2011 Statesville Christmas Parade sponsored by the 30th Masonic district of North Carolina will be will be held on Sunday, December 11, 2011 at 3:00 pm. Line up will start at 1:30 pm. Downtown Holiday Shop & Stroll Set for Friday, December 2

2011 Statesville Tree Lighting planned at the Civic Center


Kick off the holiday season by attending the 10th Annual Statesville Tree Lighting on Tuesday, November 29, 2011 from 6:30pm - 8:30pm at the Statesville Civic Center. The official 21 foot tree of lights will light up and begin the holiday season. This is a great event for the entire family. Help welcome Santa as he arrives on his train with his special friends. Break the winter chill inside with hot cocoa, cider, and cookies. Have your picture taken with Santa for a small fee as you enjoy free entertainment, kids activity area and local vendors displaying their unique specialty items. Mitchell Community College's Annual Veterans Day Ceremony


Lieutenant Commander Kim Mitchell, a Vietnamese orphan adopted by a U.S. Naval Officer will be the guest speaker at Mitchell Community College's annual Veterans Day Ceremony. The program which honors armed services veterans and current service personnel will be held Friday, Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. on the Circle at Mitchell Community College. The program is free and open to the public. College officials hope that all Iredell County veterans and current service personnel will attend the celebration. Light refreshments will be served. The Circle is on the historic main campus at 500 W. Broad St. in Statesville. In case of inclement weather, the event will be held in Shearer Hall. For more information, call (704) 878-4321.

Go See It's A Wonderful Life this weekend!


This weekend Theatre! Statesville will present "It's a Wonderful Life" based on the classic Christmas movie. It's the perfect kick-off to the holiday season. The story is told in Radio Play format with actors playing many roles, and providing amazing sound effects. Performances are Friday, November 11 at 8 pm, Saturday, November 12 at 3 pm and 8 pm and Sunday, November 13 at 3 pm. Ticekts are $10 adults, $7 seniors and $5 students. Haunted Statesville - Make Your Reservations Today!


Haunted Statesville! Everyone loves a great ghost story. Come if you dare! This walking ghost tour is full of old stories and legends from Statesville’s past. Step beyond the beauty of Statesville’s historic downtown and discover its true haunted history--where tales of spirits, scary creatures, mysterious deaths and creepy alleys become real. Tours run October 21-22 and October 28-29* every half hour between 6:30 - 8 pm. Tickets are $10 per person or 4 for $35. Reservations are required. Special hayride tours only on October 29 at 6 pm, 7 pm and 8 pm. Hayride tour tickets are $10 each. Group rate does not apply. Hayrides provided by Stamey Farms. Downtown Business District Hosts Trick or Treating on October 31


It’s that time of year again when all the little ghosts and goblins converge on downtown to receive their Halloween treats. Trick or Treating will take place in the Downtown Business District on Monday, October 31, from 4 to 6 p.m. Participating businesses will give away candy to costumed kids aged 12 and younger. Please mark your calendars! As in years past, an orange pumpkin with the downtown logo as its nose will be displayed in the window of those businesses that are participating in this event. Join us in Downtown Statesville for a safe trick or treating experience.

Statesville Pumpkin Fest Cornhole Classic Tournament


The 3rd Annual Statesville Pumpkin Fest Cornhole Classic Tournament which will take place during the festival on Saturday, November 5, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Downtown Statesville. The entry fee is $50 per two-man team with a maximum of 32 teams participating in the tournament. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top four teams. Rules and regulations will be posted at the tournament site which is within the boundaries of the Statesville Pumpkin Fest.
