About DSDC

Downtown Statesville Development Corporation is a non-profit, 501(c) 3 organization charged with administering the Main Street Program and managing the revitalization of Downtown Statesville, located in the beautiful foothills of North Carolina at the intersections of I-77 and I-40.  

 

Our Mission

DSDC is a nonprofit organization that exists to provide leadership dedicated to the historic preservation and enhancement of Downtown Statesville. Our organization promotes downtown as the primary center for economic growth opportunities, social experiences and cultural arts in Statesville.

Our Vision

Downtown Statesville is a mixed-use historic business district that is the heart of the community. Fostering a collection of independently owned destination businesses, downtown is the hub of education, cultural arts and entertainment experiences and the center of urban living opportunities in a walkable, livable downtown district.

Our Team

Our team consists of 2 full-time and 1 part-time members of staff. Our office is located at 112 S. Center Street. Normal operating Hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Annual Budget

The annual operating budget for DSDC is approximately $218,000. DSDC has two full time staff positions and one part time. Funding comes from the following sources:

  • Municipal Service District Tax. (Approximately 50%)
  • City Appropriation. (Approximately 23%)
  • Miscellaneous, i.e. fundraising and events. (Approximately 27%)

Board and Committee Information

The DSDC Board of Directors is comprised of 17 volunteers that share a common vision for Downtown Statesville and direct and administer activities implemented by a full-time staff.

Board members serve voluntary three-year terms and represent a diverse population of interests, including downtown merchants, property owners, businesses, educational institutions and other community organizations. The Board meets once a month, on the 3rd Wednesday at noon.

Works to strengthen Downtown Statesville’s existing economic assets while diversifying its economic base. This is accomplished by retaining and expanding our existing businesses and attracting new businesses to provide a balanced commercial mix, by converting unused or underused commercial space into economically productive property to help boost the profitability of the district.
