It’s Friday night after a long week at work. You are tired and ready to relax, have a glass of wine, and chat about nothing and everything with other adults. There is a good chance you will find yourself seated at a table in Wine Maestro - Downtown Statesville, surrounded by friends and strangers, with a glass of wine from the tasting bar, and a plate of decadent cheese and crackers in front of you. The people you share this table with will probably differ drastically in age, status (financial, marital, job, etc), and opinion, but it doesn’t matter to you or anyone else sitting there. Some will have sweet Moscato in their glass, while others drink a dry red wine or a Porter from the Craft Beer selections. Some stay for only one drink before walking to dinner at a nearby restaurant, and others hang out all night, until they hear “last call” and head home. When a seat does become available, it will not be long before it is filled with a new face, joining in the conversation. By the evening’s end, no one is a stranger.
Five years ago when Jason and Liz Petree purchased Wine Maestro, they made the choice to relocate the store to Downtown Statesville. They had seen the changes and revitalization that was happening downtown, and wanted to be part of the excitement. They had no idea that their “little wine shop” would become such an integral part of Downtown Statesville. The shop and its customers have become a community within the community, where everyone is welcomed with the same warm and sincere smile when you walk through the door.
Liz said they have never once regretted the decision to move downtown. She loves seeing people out walking on their lunch break, shopping, just enjoying the weather with their children and their dogs. She has enjoyed watching the growth and improvements in Downtown, and in her own business, over the last several years.
With 600 wines and 500 beers from all over the world to choose from, her shop is sure to impress the most experienced wine and beer enthusiasts. There is something for everyone. The tasting bar offers six taps for craft beer and eight different wines by the glass. If you still cannot find what you are looking for, it can always be special ordered! Beyond the fine wine and craft beer, you will also find specialty cheeses, nuts, crackers, olive oil and balsamic vinegar. The outdoor seating and relaxed indoor atmosphere is welcoming and offers so much flexibility. It is not uncommon to see a group walk in with cake or pizza, and pile on the sofas and chairs to eat, drink, and celebrate.
There are special events scheduled throughout the month, too: wine tastings, tap-takeovers with a local craft brewery, live music, and, a community favorite, Pot Luck night! The first Thursday of each month, everyone is welcome to bring a dish to share and fill your belly for dinner at the community potluck at Wine Maestro. Check the Facebook Page: “Wine Maestro-Downtown Statesville” for details on the special events.
Wine Maestro in Downtown Statesville has become so much more than a wine shop. It is where the community gathers to nurture, encourage, love, celebrate, mourn, and heal. This is the place that will rally when someone in the community is in need. It is the place that you will see unlikely friendships grow, love stories begin and end, long-time friends stay connected, and dreams become reality.
