Friday night, Downtown Statesville is excited to be movin’ and groovin’ to the sounds of the renowned hometown band, The Catalinas. If you have been lucky enough to be at one of their concerts in the past, you know they draw a huge crowd and the dance floor will be packed with young and old, shagging, slow dancing, and line dancing.
Since 1957, The Catalinas have established themselves as the prominent beach music band in the Southeast, with hits like “Summertime’s Callin’ Me” and “You Haven’t The Right.” Although the band has evolved and changed over the years, it has remained true to their musical roots.
Band members and brothers, Gary, Johnny, and Lynn Barker were born and raised here in Statesville, along with the drummer, Jody Rumple. We spoke to band leader, Gary Barker, about what it was like to play in his hometown of Statesville. “We love playing in our hometown because people come out to see us that we grew up with and don't get to see very often. We play all over the Southeast and it's just nice to get to play in Statesville for our friends and family,” said Gary.
You will not want to miss this FREE performance! Join us at the Piedmont HealthCare Friday After Five Summer Concert Series on Friday, June 9. Music begins at 5:30 pm, and will take place on West Broad Street, in front of Mitchell Community College. Click here for more details.
