One of the best things about Summer in Statesville is the Friday After Five Summer Concert Series. You will see people of all ages, backgrounds, and opinions come together on these Friday evenings to relax and listen to a variety of music. They dance with their children, spouses, or with a group of friends, and sometimes with a group of strangers. Many will enjoy a cold drink, delicious meal, and two scoops of ice cream. You will see kids running and playing, squealing with delight, with any thoughts of technology, screens, and electronics long gone. Old friends catch up, and new friends are made. It is truly reminiscent of days gone by. It’s a wonderful thing to watch.
What you may not see is the DOZENS of people working to make it all happen. You may not see the preparations that began days before, or the setup that starts three hours prior to the concert. During the concert, we try to keep cold drinks in your hand with little to no waiting, all while making sure all the rules are followed. After it ends, you may not realize how many people are breaking it all down, loading it back up, and cleaning up trash, just to do it all over again next week. This is where we need you!
We rely heavily on our volunteers to make this event possible. We could not do it without the help of many people that donate their time and energy, week after week, to bring these concerts to Statesville. Please consider signing up for a shift at the next concert! Our volunteers will tell you, it really is fun!
