If you enjoy comic books, anime, science fiction, steam punk, or pop culture, then Statesville Comic Con should be on your calendar for this weekend!

Statesville’s first ever comic book convention will be held at the Statesville Civic Center in Downtown Statesville on Saturday, February 4th, 2017. Organized by Tim & Sherry Deel, this convention will have 100 vendors to satisfy any niche or enthusiast that comes in the door—apparel, books, games, toys, costumes, collectibles, and so much more. The Deels have organized other comic cons in Shelby and Marion, NC. They are looking forward to expanding into Statesville, and expect it to be the largest one yet!

As is customary for any comic con, cosplay is encouraged, but not required, at the Statesville Comic Con. “Cosplay” is a contraction of the two words “costume play,” and is performance art in which participants wear costumes and fashion accessories to represent a specific character from a book, movie, video game, anime, or any fictional character. Costumes will range from store bought and thrown together, to very detailed with a lot of time, money, and love invested by the cosplayer. Cosplay is one of the biggest draws to comic cons, for the young and old.

There will be special guests in attendance at the Statesville Comic Con, such as Spider the Man and DeadPool, the 501st Star Wars costuming group, and Carolina Tardis will be available for photo ops. The convention will also feature Adria Empire (a medieval reenactment group), JR Mounts (author of Fried Pickle Noir), and Michael Eury (editor of Back Issue! magazine and former employee of DC Comics and Dark Horse Comics).

The cost to attend is $5.00 for Adults, $2.00 for those 12 and under, 3 and under are free. The first 100 people thru the door will receive a swag bag (1 per family). The event will run from 10:00am to 5:00pm. Be sure not to miss the costume contest at 3pm and a raffle to benefit Purple Heart Homes!
